Solar Power Generates Large Portion of Electricity Used at SGA Corporate Center

SCOTTSDALE, July 2013 - Did you know that The SGA Corporate Center's solar power project generates enough electricity to supply 40 percent of the building’s power needs during peak use periods and 100 percent of the building’s power needs during non-peak periods?

Development Services of America (DSA) designed, installed and operates the project which completely covers the top deck of the parking garage, providing shade while quietly generating power all day long.

Construction on the ambitious solar power project at the SGA Corporate Center at Kierland began in July, 2012.

According to Richard Wilson, President of Development Services of America, the project features 85,000 square feet of photovoltaic panels installed over the top deck of the building's parking garage.

"This is an exciting endeavor for DSA as we work toward increasing our use of renewable resources for the building," he said.

Wilson said the project will produce a peak of 997 kilowatts of electricity and is expected to generate 100 percent of the building's power needs during non-peak periods and 40 percent of the building's power needs during peak use periods.

With an annual average of almost 300 days of sunshine, Scottsdale is an extremely viable area to take advantage of solar energy.

"This is a smart investment for us," said Wilson.

"The pay-back on our investment is about five years and we will be using clean, renewable energy for our needs. Plus any excess electricity we generate is put back into the utility grid and reduces our overall energy costs, while making it available to the utility company for use elsewhere."
