Food Alliance Certifies FSA Seattle for Sustainability

SEATTLE, January 2012 - Both of Food Services of America Seattle’s distribution centers have been recognized as Food Alliance Certified Handlers, our second and third locations to receive this significant industry designation.

Seattle follows FSA Portland, the first of our distribution facilities passing a third-party audit by Food Alliance, a national nonprofit offering the most comprehensive certification in North America for sustainable agricultural and food handling practices.

FSA Portland was the first broadline foodservice distributor in the United States to be certified for sustainable business practices.

According to Randy Irvine, FSA Seattle President, the certification has reinforced our leadership in the food industry for prudently managing resources and advancing food safety.

“This was a very comprehensive two-year process,” he said. “It just proves that FSA provides leadership on the issues that are important to many of our customers.”

Jim Reynolds, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for FSA Portland, said the Food Alliance Certification has set us apart from our competition.

“Teamed with the recent certification of our sister branch in Seattle, we have a loud and powerful voice, one that is regularly sought after and deeply appreciated by the customers we serve,” he said. “The combined influence of our two dominant distribution houses in the Pacific Northwest has allowed us to once again define the playing field and keep us at the forefront of the issues that continue to emerge and challenge the restaurant industry.”
